[attr="class","fdgeneralone"]01 RANKS
[attr="class","fdgeneraltwo"]THESE WILL BE THE MEMBER GROUPS
[attr="class","fdgeneralbody"]
CIVILIAN[break][break]
This rank is for those that do not take up the life of a shinobi, either because they do not want to or because they simply cannot (not all people have the ability to produce and control chakra). Civilian is the broadest membergroup, they can be that simple ramen shop owner down the street, or they can be a noblewoman from the Land of Fire. Pretty much anything goes for civilians, just remember that they do not typically have shinobi training and are thus unable to participate in missions. In fact, civilians are usually the ones that request missions (i.e. escorting them on a journey), however there are some that act in a political capacity as well. For instance, many Kage’s have civilian advisors, those that consider the village beyond that of military strength. Likewise, the nobility essentially fund the hidden villages, and as such are extremely involved in the politics of the nations.[break][break]
GENIN[break][break]
This is the lowest and immediate rank one obtains once they’ve graduated from the Academy by passing both a written and a practical exam. Once a student graduates to the level of Genin, they are awarded a forehead protector as proof of their achievement, and are then assigned to four-person cells consisting of themselves, two other peers, and a jounin, who acts as both a mentor (sensei) and a team leader. As an official ninja rank, Genins are able to partake in minimal to low risk missions and contribute to the village’s economy. Genins are typically given missions relating to manual labor or companionship for a patron's travels. Skills and abilities are widely varied amongst the Genin rank, considering most are just beginning to tap into their potential and are still learning how to properly utilize jutsu techniques.[break][break]
CHUUNIN[break][break]
This is largely considered the intermediate rank of shinobi. Upon having successfully passed the Chuunin exams, or obtaining the official approval from their respective Kage, a genin may be elevated to the rank of Chuunin. Chuunin’s are considered ready and able to lead missions and teams, having attained a certain level of maturity and tactical prowess. Once one has obtained the level of Chuunin, they are able to wear the signifying flak jacket if they want, though it is not a requirement. Obtaining the rank of Chuunin does not remove you from your previously assigned four-person cell, though it does broaden your options to test teamwork with other teams and higher level shinobi amongst the village.[break][break]
JOUNIN[break][break]
This is considered the advanced rank of shinobi, consisting only of those who possess great individual skill and military prowess. In order to obtain the rank of Jounin, one can be recommended by fellow villagers for promotion—of which all recommendations are decided upon by the Kage. An exam can also be taken for Jounin promotion, but nominations are most common. After having earned the rank of Jounin, shinobi can tackle A-rank and S-rank mission (which are considered the most difficult to undertake). Likewise, it is not uncommon for Jounin shinobi to handle missions alone. Jounins are often assigned a team of three genin upon obtaining their rank, whom they are to supervise, mentor, and protect on missions. Jounin must be proficient in at least one type of jutsu, in order to obtain this rank and be recognized by the village.[break][break]
KAGE[break][break]
The rank of Kage is considered the highest level and highest honor a shinobi can obtain. The term Kage—meaning shadow—is a title reserved for the leader of a hidden village, and they oversee much of the internal activity of their respective village, while simultaneously being entrenched in the external politics with the other hidden villages. As Kage, one must act as a diplomat on occasion, attending events held by the nobility and Kage summits. However, a Kage is as much a military figure as they are a political one, for they are typically considered a village’s most powerful shinobi. How one is elected Kage varies from village to village. For example, in Kumo the title of Kage is passed down through relatives, whereas in Konoha the title is appointed a successor by the previous Hokage. Kage’s have the choice to retire when they feel it is necessary, but retain their title even in retirement.[break][break]
MISSING NIN[break][break]
A shinobi that has either betrayed or abandoned his or her village is considered a “Missing Nin”. These shinobi are often dangerous, wanted criminals with prices on their heads and their own pages in the “Bingo Book”. Missing Nins are distinguishable by their purposefully damaged forehead protectors (the disfiguring of their hidden village symbol).
